Heirs of John Frizzell listed in Rutherford Co TN Minutes(1939)

Date: December 11, 1939
Case: A. D. Frizzell et al. vs. No. 668 Allene Ferrell et al.

This case centers on a 90-acre tract of land originally owned by John (J. B.) Frizzell (recorded in Deed Book 74, page 428). John was the son of David Frizzell and Rebecca Manley Frizzell.  Following John’s death in October 1929, his widow, Susan Frizzell, occupied the property until her own passing in 1939. Because the couple had no children, the estate was distributed to the heirs of John’s siblings. All of his siblings were deceased by the time of this case, so it was necessary to trace the lineage down an addition generation or two.  It is important to remember that the Order of Reference only lists those siblings who produced heirs.  It does not mention Margaret Catherine Frizzell who died young nor  James Reuben Frizzell who is deceased and had no issue. Given the amount of heirs(60), it was determined that it would be best to sell the 90 acre tract.
  1. Lee Andrew Frizzell 5 living children (1/42 share each) and 2 grandchildren (1/84 share each).
  2. Thea Frizzell 8 living children (1/63 share each) and 5 grandchildren via Mary Frizzell Reynolds (1/315 share each).
  3. Sissie Taylor 1 living son, Zack (1/21 share), 1 grandson via Beckie (1/21 share), and 2 grandchildren via Norah (1/42 share each).
  4. Abbie Frizzell 1 living son, A. D. Frizzell, who receives a full 1/7 interest.
  5. Annie Jakes 6 living children and 1 grandchild (Hazel Jakes), each receiving a 1/49 share.
  6. Mealie Fults 3 living children, each receiving a 1/21 share.
  7. Henry Frizzell 11 living children (1/98 share each) and various grandchildren via deceased children Susan, Dona, and Dave (shares ranging down to 1/490).
I didn't mention the names of all the heirs in this article but a complete list can be seen by visiting the URL listed in the source below.

Notes:
Thea is Theoderick Rushing Frizzell.
Sissie Taylor is Mary Elizabeth Frizzell Taylor.
Abbie Frizzell is Absalom Manley Frizzell.
Annie Jakes(my Great Grandmother) is Telitha Ann Frizzell Jakes.
Mealie Fults is Permelia Jane Frizzell Fulks.

Comparing these minutes against my own research proved highly productive, though it did reveal a discrepancy: one of the grandchildren’s surnames is recorded incorrectly. Based on the context, I suspect this error occurred when the case was being transcribed into the official minutes book.

Deeds of Heirs of David Frizzell--Bedford Co. TN

Those researching David W Frizzell and wife, Rebecca Manley will be interested in the following deeds.  David and Rebecca had at least 11 children. Two of them predeceased David as did Rebecca.  He is sometimes confused with another David Frizzell who also lived in Bedford Co TN and died leaving a will naming his wife Nancy.   After Rebecca's death, David did remarry to Sallie McKee(she is the Sallie enumerated with him in 1870) however all of his known children are thru his 1st wife, Rebecca.  They lived in District 4 of Bedford County Tennessee.  I'll post any others I find and link the posts. David and Rebecca are my 2nd Great Grandparents(the maternal grandparents of my paternal grandmother)

Williamson Co. TN--Dist 25(1836-1840)--T-Z

Over the past few years I've been studying Williamson Co TN Dist. 25 in hopes that knowing how the families were interconnected will help me to find a lead and break thru my Cook brick wall.  I've been using a spreadsheet to pull together my notes and information on this community so that I had somewhere to quickly look for notes on the families if they showed up in any other parts of my research. I'm publishing this to my blog in the hopes of finding other researchers interested in the area and time period that the information here might help.  This portion contains families who were living in or taxed in District 25 of Williamson Co TN during the years 1836-1840 whose surnames begin with T-Z.  When possible I've noted connections in neighboring districts.  Simply put, there is a lot of overlap of families between Williamson Co TN Dist. 25,  the Versailles and Eagleville area of Rutherford Co TN and Bedford Co TN Dist. 10(Rover).   Also please note that anyone listed as NOT enumerated in District 25 should probably read not listed as Head of Household in Williamson Co. TN District 25.  They may be within another household OR they may not be enumerated at all within the district for a number of reasons.

A few pre-1820s Deeds--Hights in Franklin Co NC

I've previously blogged about the Hight family specifically John Hight of Franklin Co NC. You can see those posts at the following links.

Will of John Hight--Franklin(1796)Co NC(1795) https://mariegen.blogspot.com/2020/07/will-of-john-hight-franklin-co-nc-1795.html Purchasers from the Estate Sale of John Hight--Franklin Co NC(1796) https://mariegen.blogspot.com/2020/02/purchasers-from-estate-sale-of-john.html

Last week while I was scanning thru the Bedford Co TN Deed Books at FamilySearch for Jakes/Frizzell deeds I happened upon some from my Cook family.  Posting the locations of the entries here so that they will be easier to find by other researchers who might find them interesting.

The A.Tucker to W C Cook deed mentioned that it was the same land from the Chancery Court case of Anna Putman and others vs Wm G Hight and others.  It didn't mention the time period but I was lucky enough to find an index within the pages of  digitized microfilm from the Bedford Co TN Chancery Court Minutes which showed the page numbers for 3 entries concerning this case.

Mar. 1871 - Oct. 1872 (2nd Book on the roll of Microfilm)
  • Book pg 201 and 202  Images 440 and 441 of 638
  • Book pg 217 and 218 Images 448 and 449  of 638
  • Book pg 347 and 348  Image 513 of 638
The 3 entries provide a bit of additional information about what happened to the land. After the death of William Putman, the land was sold by William's son, David Vance Putman  I need to transcribe the Minute Book entries.  The writing is a bit hard to read but it does give some more detail about the lands and dates of sale prior to it being purchased by A Tucker..  I have a digital copy of the file from Jabel Putman(Father of Wm Putman & Elizabeth Putman Cook) probate which shows how his land was divided among Jabel's heirs.

You'll need to be registered and logged in to FamilySearch.org but registration is free.  From the above direct links to the Bedford Co TN Deed Book listing you should be able to find the book you want along with a clickable camera icon for the roll on which.  You will likely need to scroll to find it.  Once you find the film that book is on, you can browse to the page you are looking for or in the case of the Chancery Court Records I have provided the image numbers.  When I am looking for records that I might be interested in reading thru I do a search of the catalog by place and note that I want o view those which have images available online.  .

Chromosome Mysteries and hopes for some answers....A learning process for sure.

After having gotten my DNA results almost a month ago I have been working on finding matches to help solve a few of the research issues I have had on several of my family lines.  While waiting for responses from some of those I contacted I started looking more in depth at names and groupings of people that match along each chromosome.  I have been comparing matches along the X chromosome(Chromo 23) and noticed that I have over 6 matches who have the Taylor surname listed in their user name.  Given the X inheritance pattern (paternal grandmother and maternal grandparents) it intrigues me even further because you would think that there would be a wide assortment of surnames.  I don't have a Taylor surname in my direct line that I know of though I have always suspected that my GGG Grandfather, William Taylor Hale(Warren & Van Buren Co. TN), possibly had the middle name because it was the maiden name of either his Mother or one of his Grandmothers.  Since I have not gotten his line back with proof any further than him I do not know if this is so.  Another thought as I was looking through the family tree shares of people who match my DNA --I have noticed that there are several who have the surnames Archer, Collins Martin & Scott in their trees. I checked over my new matches at AncestryDNA and found a tester's name that I recognized.  She is a 4th cousin through my Daniel Pittman & Comfort Hatfield line.  I have had known matches of Daniel & Comfort's son David & his wife Mary Adcock but to get the DNA connection back even further is exciting.  I recommended that she put her DNA data at GEDmatch so that we could compare chromosome segment matches.  Sure hope she does as it would really help to sort those lines out.  Still waiting on Mom's DNA to show up as processing.  I would expect to have the results by the end of this month which will help me to determine what matches are on her side and which were from Dad..
