Petition for Settlement: Estate of William Cook

In this case it appearing to the satisfaction of the
Court that David Cook, Lydia Norvell, Martha and Coaly Hornsley, William P. Cook, defendants in this case, are not inhabitants of this State-- it is therefore ordered by the Court that publication be made as to them for six weeks in the Greensborough Patriot, for them to appear at the next term of this Court on the Fourth Monday of January, 1846, at the Court House in Carthage, and plead, answer or demur to the petition filed in this case or the same will be taken pro confesso and set for hearing, and heard ex parte as to them.

Haven't yet found the entry in the January 1846 term but did find a mention of Joseph Cook admin of Wm Cook estate. The date at the top of that page indicates this one was August term 1830 and doesn't mention any other folks. With as many Joseph and William Cooks as their were in NC it might not even be the same one.  Hopefully I will be able to find the Jan 1846 court records.


Order that Joseph Cook Administrator of Wm Cook dec'd be permitted to sell two Negroes the property of his intestate for the purpose of settling the estate and making an equal division among the legatees.
