Still unsure if W C Cook went to Arkansas and was THE "William C Cook" involved in the canceled land transaction. The years in question(1871-1874) were ones in which tax records for the Rutherford or Bedford Co TN were not required to be retained and no longer exist. No record of a William C Cook living in Lawrence Co Arkansas has been found. The land transaction papers would lead one to believe that the man by that name was a resident there and had been for at least a few years before the purchase.

While I did find some Cooks listed, no listing for a William C Cook or any variation was found for any of those years. Possibly he was exempt from taxation due to his age(in 1871 he was 60). That also raises the question of why move to another state at that age.
The taxed Cooks were named: Joseph, Thomas M, and Henry.
Also if it is not W C Cook who bought and cancelled that land, who is this other William C Cook? I want to know more about him.
JP, JK, and JGid all went to Arkansas at some point around the early 1880s. JP stayed there and was living there when he passed. JGid and JK returned to TN where they remained until their deaths.

Cook Bible Records, family pages from Bible given to Cass B Cook by Wm C Cook(his father) in late 1870s; digital images made by Hoyte Cook 14 May 1997, Copies sent to Marie Cooke Beckman. Entries appear to have been written by a few different hands. The Listing covers the Births and Deaths of Wm C Cook, his wife Elizabeth Putman, all of their children, and the children of their youngest son Cass B Cook who received the bible from Wm C Cook. The bible was passed to Cass B Cook's youngest son Thomas C Cook and then handed down to his sons Hoyte and David Cook who currently possess the bible pages. Wm C Cook bought of Robt Mathews, List of goods purchased, Bedford County Tennessee, July 27th 1859, Loose paper in Cook Bible, Cook Family Bible privately held by Hoyte & David Cook, copied image provided by Hoyte Cook to Marie Cooke Beckman May of 1997. A photocopy of the receipt that was a loose piece of paper tucked inside the Cook Family Bible. The Cook bible was passed to Cass B Cook from Wm C Cook and to Cass' youngest son Thomas Clifford Cook. From Thomas Clifford Cook the bible passed to his youngest son David who is currently in possession. Copies of the papers were distributed to some descendants.

Bedford Co. TN Tax rolls for years 1858-1874 no longer exist. I did inquire with the county archives and was told that any of those records either were thrown out or lost in one of the courthouse fires as the state at that time didn't require that the county retain them. This means the available years of the Bedford Co TN Tax rolls that would be included in this timeline(1858-1888) are 1875-1888. The US, IRS Tax Assessment List for 1862-1918 database at Ancestry only includes 1862 for Tennessee. A check of the individual source for the TN data lists the source as Civil War Direct Tax Assessment Lists: Tennessee; NARA Microfilm Publication T227, 6 rolls); Records of the Accounting Officers of the Department of the Treasury, RG 217; NARA, DC.
Rutherford Co. TN Tax rolls likewise are also scares for years and run 1877-1888 for the years covered in this timeline.
